TEFL Institute Ireland Logo

The TEFL Institute of Ireland (TEFL.ie) has certified over 20,000 teachers. Also, 98% of graduates recommend taking the TEFL course. This makes it one of the most trusted, recognized, and respected TEFL providers in the world today.

Their Level 5 TEFL course is officially recognized by the United Kingdom government and is the equivalent to CELTA. With employer partnerships worldwide, the TEFL Institute of Ireland is there to help you get hired quickly.

TEFL Course Types

The TEFL Institute of Ireland offers three accredited courses with separate styles of learning:

  • Accredited Fast-Track Course – If you’re tight on time or budget, the accredited fast-track course works well. You can achieve TEFL certification in just 4 weeks and are still recognized worldwide.
  • Government Regulated Level 5 Course – These courses are the equivalent of CELTA. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s like the gold standard in training for teaching English.  This means it opens more doors for higher-paying jobs.
  • Classroom Hybrid Blended Course – The hybrid blended course is a live online classroom training session from expert TEFL tutors at the TEFL Institute of Ireland.

Let’s take a look at some of the advantages of taking each type of TEFL course provided by the TEFL Institute of Ireland.

Accredited Fast-Track Course

If you decide to pick the accredited fast-track course, then our recommendation is the 120-hour Premier TEFL course. This duration is the industry standard required in a TEFL course and covers the core credentials needed to be an English teacher. It’s accredited which can help fulfill the basic visa requirements. Not only this, but it gives you the bare minimum you need to receive the proper training to be a TEFL teacher.

If you increase to the 180 Hour Advanced TEFL Course, you receive an additional 30-hour training course for teaching IELTS and TOEIC students. Finally, the 240 Hour Professional TEFL Course gives you 5 internationally recognized certifications. This includes the Premier, IELTS, TOEIC from the Premier, and Advanced TEFL Course. Also, you get specialized modules in Business English and Young Learners.

Government Regulated Level 5 Course

If you are from the United Kingdom and you want to teach ESL students in your home country, this is the only case that we recommend taking a Government Regulated Level 5 Course. The TEFL Institute of Ireland offers equivalent training to the CELTA program, which is the gold standard for teaching English.

If you’re not familiar with this type of certification, “Level 5” refers to the methodology of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) in the United Kingdom. A “Level 5 certificate” means that the level of education, knowledge, and skills required to complete the course fulfills this framework, which includes CELTA.

Similar to the accredited fast-track course, you get more specializations based on the number of hours you enroll in. For example, you receive IELTS, TOEIC, Business English, and Teaching Young Learners in the 300-hour program.

Coursework

Core Modules

As a part of the core coursework, the focus is around 10 modules to prepare you to become a professional TEFL teacher.

  • The role of a TEFL instructor
  • Creating lesson plans
  • Classroom management and behavior
  • Teaching vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation
  • Writing and speaking in English

Specialization Modules

If you decide to take the IELTS and TOEIC specializations courses, they will train you in the following areas:

  • Learn about the IELTS exam and scoring
  • Listening, reading, and writing
  • IELTS speaking and vocabulary preparation
  • Understanding TOEIC exam and scoring
  • TOEIC Bridge testing
  • All core concepts for TOEIC

Paid Internships

An onsite TEFL internship is where you get paid to teach and travel. They give teachers a unique opportunity to jump right into getting experience as an English teacher in a foreign country. For instance, the TEFL Institute of Ireland’s internships have opportunities to teach in China, Thailand, Italy, and Vietnam.

By working in onsite paid internships, you get immersed quickly. Besides that, it’s a great way to get acquainted with working in another country and help shake off some of the culture shock.  Also, accommodation is covered with in-country support. Lastly, you get country guidance for each step on your journey abroad.

If you want to teach English abroad like in China or South Korea, a lot of employers require TEFL certification. • English First
  • Apollo English
  • Nova
  • JM English
  • English For All

TEFL Institute of Ireland Review

Overall, the TEFL Institute of Ireland is trusted, respected, and accredited. It’s highly rated and is one of the leading TEFL providers. One of the things I like the most is the number of courses you can take.

For those who are tight on time and budget, the accredited fast-track course is for you. But for those who maybe want to teach in the United Kingdom, the government-regulated Level 5 course opens more doors for higher-paying jobs. Finally, the Professional Online Teacher course is ideal for those who want to teach virtually.

Best bang for your buck

Rated 4.0 out of 5
July 10, 2022

I was looking for the best bang for my buck. They fit my checklist of what I was looking for… The content was in-depth and the staff were good. I would’ve liked a longer time for teaching practice.

I liked the assigned tutor I had in the program. That was a big plus how the staff helped me out. They shared their experiences abroad and all had some level of experience and even had their own business. A high recommendation for the TEFL Institute of Ireland.

Standout course with teaching online specialty class

I am from Dublin so I also wanted to choose one closer to home. This course stood out for me as it was internationally recognized. In the end, I ended up taking an extra course to specialize teaching online. This could help me with teaching online during Covid, and I think it did help me get jobs for teaching online.

I just completed the 120 Hour Course. This course gave me a solid understand to teach English as a foreign language instructor. I would highly recommend this class to anyone that I enjoyed every minute of it. You can study TEFL at your own pace in a relaxed environment. I’m ready to take the next step in my TEFL career and seek out TEFL jobs as soon as possible.

Great 180 hour Ofqual TEFL course

Rated 4.0 out of 5
January 6, 2020

I was a bit worried about non regulated programs because I’ve read this online on Reddit… After a bunch of research, I chose the 180 hour Ofqual TEFL diploma from the TEFL Institute of Ireland. Overall, I was satisfied with the amount of coursework and class material. The support after I finished could’ve been a bit better in terms of preparation. But overall, I enjoyed most of it.

Satisfying but choose only what you need

I already did a bit of teaching in Vietnam beforehand and wanted to solidify my credentials. I took the online 240 hour package because I wanted to get the extra specialty courses. I liked them all except for the TOEIC/IELTS just because it didn’t apply to me.
